Sulfate-free Shampoos

Sulfate-free Shampoos

For years, sulfates have been branded the “bad guys” in hair care. But it’s time to set the record straight — sulfates aren't inherently harmful and can actually benefit your hair routine, depending on your hair type and needs.

We’re here to break down why we chose to include sulfates, mainly SLES, in our shampoo — and why that decision is backed by both science and care.

What is a surfactant, and why does your shampoo need it?

At the heart of every shampoo is something called a surfactant — the ingredient responsible for that bubbly lather and the actual cleansing of your scalp and hair. Surfactants work by attracting both oil and water, so they can lift away sweat, dirt, excess oil, and product buildup.

Without a surfactant, your shampoo wouldn’t actually clean.

Sulfates vs. Non-Sulfates — what’s the difference?

There are two main types of surfactants used in shampoos:

  • Sulfates, like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)

  • Non-sulfates, like cocamidopropyl betaine or glucosides

Sulfates are known for creating a rich lather and giving a squeaky-clean feel. Non-sulfates are milder, but may not cleanse as thoroughly — especially if you use a lot of styling products, have an oily scalp, or are exposed to a lot of environmental damage.

So why does SLS get a bad name — and why did we pick SLES?

It’s true: SLS can be harsh for some. It’s a strong cleanser and may strip natural oils, especially if you already have a dry or sensitive scalp.

That’s exactly why we didn’t use SLS.

Instead, we use Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) — a gentler, milder sulfate that delivers effective cleansing without being aggressive. It’s widely approved by dermatologists and backed by decades of safety data.

Meet our Tri-Surfactant Formula — the real MVP

We didn’t stop at just one surfactant. Our shampoo is powered by a tri-surfactant blend that brings the best of both worlds:

  • Cleanses dirt and grime

  • Lifts pollutants and residue

  • Lathers gently, without drying out your strands

But here’s where it gets even better — we paired our surfactants with argan oil and glycerin, two powerhouse ingredients known for their deep hydration and smoothing benefits.

So while your hair gets a thorough cleanse, it’s also being nourished, hydrated, and protected from within.

But wait — is sulfate for everyone?

Not necessarily. If you have:

  • A very sensitive or reactive scalp

  • Chronic itchiness, flaking, or irritation

…you might want to consider a sulfate-free formula. And that’s totally fair.

But for most hair types — especially oily scalps or those exposed to pollution, sweat, or product buildup — a well-balanced sulfate-based shampoo actually works better.

In conclusion…

We didn’t jump on the sulfate-free trend. We chose to stick to what works. Because good hair care isn’t about loud marketing — it’s about smart formulation.

And for us, that means using gentle yet effective surfactants, paired with nourishing ingredients, to create a shampoo that truly does it all: cleanses, hydrates, and cares.

Let’s stop fearing ingredients. Let’s start understanding them.
