Are permanent hair colors better than semi-permanent ones?

Are permanent hair colors better than semi-permanent ones?

Let’s clear this up — because “better” totally depends on your hair goals (and your commitment issues 👀).

Permanent hair colors are like a full-blown relationship — they’re in it for the long haul. They’re great for greys, big color changes, and serious staying power. But here’s the thing most people skip over — they work by using strong chemicals like ammonia or MEA (Monoethanolamine) and peroxide (developer) to open up your hair shaft and deposit color deep inside. You’re changing your hair’s structure, and that commitment shows — for better or worse.

So every time you reapply or touch up your roots? You’re putting your hair through that same chemical process all over again — which, over time, can lead to dryness, damage, and breakage.

And about those so-called “no bleach” permanent colors? If the formula contains hydrogen peroxide (developer) or MEA, you are lightening your hair — even if it doesn’t say “bleach” outright. Sneaky, right?

Semi-permanent colors, like our bold and beautiful ones from 2.Oh!, are the cooler, low-commitment kind. They do need pre-lightened (a.k.a. bleached) hair to show up vibrantly — but once applied, they give you rich, glossy color that fades beautifully over 5–15 washes depending on the color you choose. When the color fades, you’re left with your blonde base — which makes it super easy to switch things up and try a new shade.

✨ Basically: no long-term pressure, just lots of play.

And the formula? Oh, it’s a dream.

Made in Italy and enriched with Argan Oil, 2.Oh! Colors are:

So no — permanent isn’t always better. Sometimes, going semi-permanent gives you way more freedom, fun, and healthier-looking hair.
